Highlighter

IMG 7635

Unlike Essie Funky Limelight, there’s no green in Celtic Sun at all so it’s not quite as perfectly highlighter yellow but it’s close (and it’s definitely a neon, I’m not sure what your computer screen is showing this color as but it’s a neon yellow).

Glass Fleck Water Marble

Glass Fleck Water Marble 2

I used Color Club Daisy Does It as my base and marbled with Color Club Daisy Does It, Color Club Wing Fling, Color Club Sparkle and Soar and Color Club Fly With Me. I’ll have swatches of the collection sometime in the next week or so, I gotta say…it’s pretty awesome!

Brazilian Rainbows!

OPI Brazil Textures Rainbow Nail Art Nailart009

OK, you all know I love texture polishes so these shades included in the OPI Brazil collection were a treat. The only problem? They are minis :( I wanted to show off each shade while creating a fun nail design…take a look!

Irish Disco Nails

Irish Disco Nails

I would never have the patience for this!

Welp, finally done did it.  Full on rhinestones, no mucking about.  Maya sent in a request a few weeks ago for a tutorial on how to do the full-cover bling nails, so I went for it with the first round of colors from a new wheel (for the record, it took about 2/3 of one of those wheel pockets to cover); turns out the colors were very Irish!  You’ll also note that one of the yellows snuck into the bed of gold stones, so that’s a fun little accident that hopefully only I notice in real life. These are actually pretty easy, aside from being time consuming.  I used clear polish for this, but you can use any color that will work for you; if you’re not packing them really tightly together just pull something that’s a little matchy (or not!) with your stone color.

To get you in the spirit of today’s holiday, here are two looks!

Hunger Games Inspired

Hungergames2wm

This first design is my interpretation of the fire nail design that Katniss is given to represent her “Girl on Fire” persona. It might sound silly but when they mentioned Katniss getting nail art, I felt a little giddy inside!

I used this amazing flame mani by Jane from Nailside as a guide and started with a base of yellow and then sponged on a sheer neon red colour to create a gradient. I then freehanded the outline of the flames using a striper brush.

Poisonous Dots Nail Art

Poisonous Dots 3

I dotted on various size dots in Barry M Acid Yellow and China Glaze Pink Voltage, but didn’t seal with a top coat, so the dotty texture would remain. I love it! Most fun nails I’ve worn in ages!

Striped Nails

Ombre yellow stripe nails step up nail art 3

Something I’ve been making a conscious effort to improve on with my nail art for 2014 is tri-fold – 1.) using colors I don’t use as frequently (i.e. yellow, like today, and pink, etc.) 2.) using more exciting polish finishes (I’m sort of a die-hard creme + glitter topper thru and thru, most likely because cremes don’t make me cry when I’m trying to clean up ’round the edges) and 3.) keep on keeping on with freehand stuff (i.e. get better) Luckily for me, and maybe for you if you like adorably wonky freehand stripes and yellow nail polish, I’ve actually been remembering these 3 goals this week for MONOCHROME week! Today I present these ‘lovingly freehanded ombre striped nails).

lemon grass

Wellies

Next we have Butter London Wellies, an amazingly bright green. This is described as a ‘green grass creme’ by Butter LONDON but I think it’s probably a bit too yellow to be reminiscent of grass. This was 3 coats, but I was definitely being over-cautious, you could easily get away with 2.

53rd element

Il fullxfull

Iodine-ing Out is a different color, I think! I like yellow a lot, so it’s also one of the polishes I like most in this collection. This polish is a shimmer with yellow undertones and like Easy Bro-Mine! has a slightly metallic appearance over black (polish in pictures above is over black). In my chemistry labs, iodine, the 53rd element, that we dealt with was in solution and was yellow, which helped me in naming this polish!

Golden

20131213 sbl guilty

Super Black Lacquers Guilty is very unique. It’s almost a vintage gold shade (that leans a little olive on me) with a strong holo effect in the sun. Indoors, the rainbow is subtle, but the polish is still glowy. With the right skin tone, this would be gorgeous. I’m just not a fan of it on me. The formula was excellent. My swatch is two coats.
