Black and White with Glit...

Day07 02

I used W7 Cosmic Black – a black jelly packed with Silver glitter – as a base. Then I took a sponge and used it to apply W7 Cosmic Mauve from the tips. Then I added some Wet n Wild White to the mix but because it’s not very opaque, it gave it a milky look. Finally I used a little more Cosmic Mauve right on the tips and used about 3 coats of NYC Top Coat to smooth things over!

Wow. Just wow.

Next up is the first color from the Fall Chic collection and my favorite of the bunch, Midnight Rainbow. This black jelly is packed with holographic and metallic circle glitters of multiple sizes, and a whole rainbow of flecks and glitters. It’s gorgeous! Shown above is three coats, but you can layer one coat over black if you want a less intense effect. This polish, like the others, required topcoat to smooth it.

Floral Glitter

Glitterfloral edited 1

Hey everyone! It’s been a couple of weeks since the last tutorial tuesday, and you’ve been missing it a tonne, I’m sure. This week’s tutorial is another one where you’ll have to head over to Divine Caroline to see the steps for this glitter floral design. If you would prefer to stick to the original colours of the dress in the article then go ahead, you definitely dont have to follow the same colour scheme I did.

It doesn’t have the most imaginative name but it pretty much sums up the polish, a gorgeous black with fine holographic glitter. In the photos I applied two coats but because the formula is pretty thick and opaque you could get way with one coat.

That’s why China Glaze Some Like It Haute is such a great glitter for me – it’s sparkly, with round holo glitters, but the charcoal microglitter tones it down. The holo glitters are also always obediently weather appropriate, looking muted on cloudy days and blindingly bright in the sun. This is two coats over one coat of ulta3 Metal, a gorgeous charcoal shimmer that looks like lead pencil, one of my top ten ulta3s.

For the base layer I used a beautiful blue from Boots 17 called Catwalk Couture, it has a very slight shimmer to it, followed by a layer of Orly Galaxy Girl a stunning purply red with lots of blue shimmer that tied in nicely with the Catwalk Couture, followed by the last layer of a-england Lancelot a blackened red to tie in with the Galaxy Girl.

This is a really nice polish with blue micro glitter and big fuchsia with sporadic holo stars.  As cute as polishes are with the big glitter like the stars are, they are also a huge pain in the butt.  I had to put the stars in place with a toothpick because it just wasn’t happening when I brushed it on.   Oh well, you gotta do what you gotta do sometimes :).

I started with two coats of Essence Twins Romeo. I did a diagonal tip with China Glaze Liquid Leather using clear scotch tape. Using my dotting tool, I placed three dots of Essence Twin Romeo, making sure the grey dots fell on the edge of the black diagonal tip. Once that dried, I added three dots with China Glaze Liquid Leather. I finished with one coat of top coat!

I have used China Glaze Be Merry, Be Bright (from the new Happy HoliGlaze Collection for Holiday 2013), A England Camelot, white nail art pen from Nails Supreme and Seche Vite topcoat.

This first design is my interpretation of the fire nail design that Katniss is given to represent her “Girl on Fire” persona. It might sound silly but when they mentioned Katniss getting nail art, I felt a little giddy inside!

I used this amazing flame mani by Jane from Nailside as a guide and started with a base of yellow and then sponged on a sheer neon red colour to create a gradient. I then freehanded the outline of the flames using a striper brush.

So yeah, the base is Zoya Caitlin, which is a really great dusty cool purple (my camera has a tough time with purples unfortunately). The tips are China Glaze Liquid Leather, but I’m sure you all could have guessed that. :)
