20130924 vivid lacquer make a spot check

I completely gasped when I pulled Make a Spot Check from the package. This polish is gorgeous! It includes four sizes of round glitters (you know how I love round glitter) in silver, blue, purple, pink, gold and green. I even found a few surprise hearts! This polish can easily be applied using the dabbing technique with minimal fishing for larger glitters. I dabbed on a coat and then placed some of the large glitters using a dotting tool. Shattered Oasis is my base.

It’s a perfect bright yet rich cobalt, leaning slightly violet as cobalt does, without being in any way a blurple. (It has much more of a violet undertone however than, say, Barry M Cobalt.) This was also a dream to apply – two coat creamy application and it spread like butter. I was a little worried that it might be similar to H&M blue my mind, but I compared them earlier, and this is considerably deeper and more obviously blue. It’s really beautiful. If you’re half way thinking about it, buy it.

Congrats! :)

Girly Bits Get Weaponized is a gorgeous teal linear holographic with flecks of iridescent purple and magenta.  The formula was rich and very easy to apply.  This was easily a one coater as well!

I am so in love with this bright blue! I have been looking for something like this for ages and I am so glad I have this at home now. The application and formula was just fine. I used two coats.

China glaze towel boy toy

Towel Boy Toy is a very bright blue with subtle shimmer. It is a neon but it’s not as bright as most neons. The formula is a bit thin, so three coats are definitely required to get an opaque color. Because this polish is a neon a shiny top coat is definitely required! I used Rush 60 Second high shine top coat.

Jewel of the Nile is a lovely mix of Blue and Green matte glitters with larger “see through” Pink bits thrown in for contrast.

The artwork  was done using white acrylic paint, China Glaze Sunshine Pop, Kleancolor Neon Orange, NYX Between Mauve and Purple, Kleancolor Neon Purple, Sinful Colors Innocent, Sinful Colors Why Not, Spoiled Permission to Proceed, and NYC Greenwich Village. The background was a gradient done using Kleancolor Metallic Aqua, Metallic Sapphire, and Metallic Fuchsia.

I used: Sally Hansen Pacific Blue, Misa Blue Jade Vine, Misa Loveliest of Lilacs, CoverGirl Wine to Five, Sally Hansen Going Green

TIP: If you are having trouble with this design, try using acrylic paint instead of nail polish! It is easier to handle and doesn’t dry out as quickly. Just be sure to put down a coat of nail polish first and finish the design with topcoat.

Amazingly gorgeous

I went with a base of OPI Miss You-Niverse, which is a gorgeous dark eggplant creme that I reviewed here. Then, I took Essie Good As Gold and with just a tiny bit of polish on the brush, swiped it upwards from the tip of my nails. Doing this also left little flecks on the rest of the nail, which are barely visible in the photos but had a nice effect in the light.

Layla Ocean Rush 2

For my base on this I tried out Essie Matte About You. I’ve heard from a lot of people that matte top coats are good bases for difficult holos. While that may be true for some holos it is not true for these Layla’s. It completely killed ALL the holo, like it just ate it right up. If you have these Layla’s I suggest staying far far away from Essie Matte About You as a base coat.

Too Cold To Hold is a rich blue textured polish that’s positively packed with holographic blue, silver, and green glitters! This polish is super sparkly and holographic, and it looks awesome in the light. Shown above is two careful coats without top coat.
