Girly and Gilded

Girly mix and match nail art 1

A few weeks ago, my sister Kelsey stopped by to get her nails done. You may remember her (and her nails!) from the last time we did a nail photoshoot featuring leopard print and a faux fur lined jacket. We were talking about manicure ideas and decided to do a girly mix and match featuring pinks, golds, and black. I did some sketching while we hammered out the details, and once the manicure was done, we did a mini photo shoot!

Fish Egg Friday

Fish Egg Friday

Because I already did a mixed manicure I decided to go with just one color and it looks like I made an Ombre Fish Egg Mani. I actually didn’t even remove my last Leopard mani, so I just applied a fresh coat of matching base color and sprinkle the beads on. I didn’t add any top coat because I remove it right after I took pictures. You can see a list of polish I used under the pictures… I know it’s not perfect, because it was made in just couple of minutes but you get the idea.

Chanel Lilac Sky is a cool-toned pinkish lilac with tons of silver shimmer. Pastels are so often warm-toned that they really don’t work on me at all, but this one, with the cool blue undertones actually makes it quite wearable for me. Application was actually better and less sheer than I expected. Two coats for opacity and no formula issues to mention. Even though it’s a bit frosty, it doesn’t really show brush strokes, but if you’ll be taking close-up photos, just make sure to do straight and even strokes. I noticed nothing until I saw my photos and there are a few very faint brush stroke marks that you couldn’t really see at arms length.

20131218 glitter bunny little pink dress1

Glitter Bunny Little Pink Dress is unique. The base is a medium pink jelly containing golden orange flakies. It sounds crazy, but the effect is cool. My swatch is two coats. I used two coats of topcoat.

Pink Gumballs

Candy shop 023

I used three coats of Candy Shop for the picture above, and seriously HOW FUN IS THIS?! I love the variety of glitter in the bubblegum pink jelly base, it’s just too cute. The formula was a bit thick, but not too problematic. Best part you ask? It’s super affordable!

This is everything. I love the soft lilac pink, the silver hex glitter floating around on the nail, and the overall whimsical feel that this polish gives me. It’s everything I tell you!

Gradient Concert

Back in July, I went to two concerts back-to-back, a One Direction and a Jonas Brothers concert. I was a bit unsure of what mani to wear since I didn’t have time to do a 1D mani and a JB mani (since the concerts were back-to-back). So, I pulled out the customized polish that I ordered from Shimmer Polish. Cindy helped create a beautiful peach, gold, and black polish that I customized for my friend Anouk. Ironically, Anouk and I met through Jonas Brothers and she actually introduced me to One Direction .. so what better polish to use, right? :D

20140125 sally hansen triple shine ree raff

Sally Hansen recently released a new line of nail color called Triple Shine. Sally Hansen says this line’s “innovative formula features a one-of-a-kind Ultimate Shield Complex, designed to help polish withstand the wear and tear of everyday living.” I sound like a broken record, but I must repeat this every time. It’s impossible for me to road test polish for wear time. There’s just too much polish to swatch and too few hours! But I CAN test polish for application and appearance. So today I have five polishes from the Triple Shine line in a few finishes to show you. All swatches are finished with Sally Hansen Triple Shine Top Coat.

This one is called Ree-Raf on the Sally Hansen site, but my bottle said Reef-Raf (which makes a little more sense to me.) It’s a summery, medium, coral-pink creme. This is two coats.

Butter London Lillibet s Jubilee 1

Today I have a gorgeous new Butter London polish to show you called Lillibet’s Jubilee! It’s a beautiful silvery lilac foil! According to Butter London’s website This commemorative color honors the international celebration marking the 60th anniversary of the Queen’s accession to the throne. I have a lot of silvery foils but nothing quite like this beauty, I was worried that once I got out in the sun you wouldn’t be able to pick up the lilac in the formula but that turned out not to be the case at all!

Dollish Polish Looking For My Mr

Looking For My Mr. Big is a violet with a beautiful duo-chrome, flashing from Violet to Blue and linear holo pattern! The holo in this was pretty subtle but it was more noticeable in real life than it came out in my photos. The formula was the same as it was for Master Chief, I used 3 coats for the photos below!
