Mardi Gras

 20141007 julieg mardis gras

I want to share some crazy nails I created using the JulieG Mardis Gras Collection. This set includes six blingy, mega-glitters that give you a textured, jewel encrusted look without topcoat, or a super glittery finish with topcoat.

To get this look, I took a small nail art brush and dabbed on each of the six colors in a random pattern. It took two passes to get everything opaque. I didn’t worry about creating a gradient between shades, nor was I going for crisp lines. You could say this was sort of an experiment. But I LOVE how it came out! It’s definitely not for the faint of heart. I wore this out to run errands (on only one hand…LOL) and got stopped everywhere I went!

Kodachrome

 Kodak Kodachrome Nail Art 1b

I started with a base of Sally Hansen Lightening, a yellow creme. I then sponged on very lightly, Nubar Forbidden Fruit (orange) and Cult Nails Fetish (black thinned down so that it was very, very faint). This gave me a background that had a distressed, vintage look. I topped that with a quick dry clear coat.

Then on to the taping. Using striping tape I painted my stripes (pinky and index) and rays (ring and middle) with Nubar Into the Wild (green), Nubar On the Radar (red), and Nubar Dusk Till Dawn (blue). I just made sure to be very careful when placing the tape, also to not place tape over any areas still wet.

The final step was the faded/vintage effect. I mixed OPI My Vampire is Buff with Lightening to get a very, very light yellow. I sponged this on making sure that my sponge had barely any polish on it – dab on a paper towel first to remove as much polish as you can. Once I had a look I was happy with, I topped it with a clear coat then finished with Cult Nails Wax That.

Yin-Yang

Pastel yin yang nail art

Now onto today’s post… I finally filmed a nail art tutorial!! O: I know, it’s been way too long! I’ve really been into yin-yang nail art lately and it’s such an easy design I figured I’d put my little twist on it and share with you all how I did it, I hope you like it!

Bold French

FUN Lacquer Christmas 2013 Wishing Star007

How lucky I am to be able to show you some FUN Lacquer today!! I’d been admiring the Princess Collection from afar so when I was offered the chance to review the Christmas collection I jumped at it. I’m pleased with every single one of them! Let’s take a look!

FUN Lacquer Wishing Star a yellow thermal polish with gold shimmer. A bright sunshine yellow in it’s cold state, and it’s an icy pale yellow with shifts from gold, to green to blue when it’s warm. Three coats needed with this one for opacity. I couldn’t resist showing off Wishing Star with Decentber tips. Such an unconventional french, right?

Nostalgia swatch for blog0

I Love Nail Polish Nostalgia, 2 coats  An incredibly unique Ultra Chrome effect that gives this polish a festive green, gold, and red color shift. My swatches really do not do this justice, in fact I’m not extremely excited about these swatches because the polish is really just so much more amazing in person.

NO SPOILERS!

I haven’t finished the series yet – I’m so behind! – but this amazing nail art gives nothing away…

Breaking bad nail art

I’ve chosen to do a recreation of a Heisenberg sketch done supposedly by the Mexican cartel but in a Warhol style. I’ve actually tried to find out who has done the sketch but no one knows.

Moss in the sun

IridescentEye2

Today I’m going to be showing you all a Chanel Peridot dupe by Jessica called Iridescent Eye! Jessica is a brand I hadn’t heard of until recently and I was surprised to find is quite affordable.  You can pick up Iridescent Eye and many other Jessica polishes at Ninja Polish for $5.00 to $6.00!

Highlighter

Unlike Essie Funky Limelight, there’s no green in Celtic Sun at all so it’s not quite as perfectly highlighter yellow but it’s close (and it’s definitely a neon, I’m not sure what your computer screen is showing this color as but it’s a neon yellow).
