To create this look, I started with a base of Cult Cosmetics DTLA, and then with hardly any polish on the brush, I dabbed on China Glaze Tongue & Chic, China Glaze Don’t Make Me Wine, and Essie Nothing Else Metals. I love these colors together, and I think it looked so cool in real life, but the photos didn’t show it so well – so I took some macro shots for you to get the real beauty of this technique!

Rorschach

 Rorschach 4

Hi everyone!  It has been forever since I did a water color mani – but I was curious to see if I could take it in the Rorschach Test direction.

I started off with two coats of Salon Perfect Sugar Cube, followed by one coat of SV.

Using the polish brush, I placed a few dots of Sugar Cube and Salon Perfect Oil Slick randomly on the nail.

Adoration

Black and purple vertical gradient 1 watermark

Gradients will always be my first nail art love. One of The Nailasarus‘s beautiful gradient manicures was the first nail art I really fell hard for and felt like I just had to try myself, and from that point on, I was hooked. As I’ve experimented with gradients more during the last year, I’ve found that I especially love them when they’re done with holographic polishes: something about all that sparkle transitioning from one color to the other just really works for me. Add in my favorite colors (purple and black) and my favorite polish brands (piCture pOlish and a england), and you’ve got a gradient I just can’t help but adore!

To get this look, I started with a base of piCture pOlish Hussy and then sponged on a gradient using Hussy and a england Bridal Veil with a makeup wedge. It was actually my husband’s idea to do the gradient vertically and alternate the color order on each nail, and I really love the effect. It’s almost like the gradient runs in both directions at once, which is pretty genius, I think. Thanks, honey!

Dance Legend Zebrasoma is a cool blue jelly loaded with micro hexes and squares in black and white.  The formula was smooth and easy to apply.  I absolutely adore this one! Shown is two coats of Zebrasoma.

Nifty Fifties

Nifty Fifties Pattern Nail Art 1

To get this look: I used OPI My Vampire is Buff, OPI My Paprika is Hotter than Yours!, and China Glaze Sea Spray. I also used Cult Nails Tempest and Fetish. Everything was done freehand, and for the blocks of colour, I painted them with Tempest to begin with, then went over them with the colour.

Overall: I really love how spunky and fun this is! It’s not too often I use orange, but I love the colour combination with the blue-orange complements, and the nice buff nude to balance. I’m also really happy with my line work on this one.

Celestial body

Monochrome texture

The base is OPI Incognito in Sausalito and then I use hole reinforcers once the base is dry and I added OPI Kiss Me At Midnight.

Emma Watson

Emma watson golden globes 2014 nail art 1

I tried to loosely interpret the spirit of the fashion while still making it work well for nail art. I began with three coats of Sally Hansen CSM in Almost Almond. This shade is a sheer YNBB “Your Nails But Better” look, which made it a great stand in for Emma’s exposed back.

Then, I painted two black stripes on each nail to represent the pants. I still struggle a bit with painting horizontal stripes on the curved surface of my nail, but I am happy with the way they came out!

Finally, I used Sally Hansen CSM in All Fired Up and a small nail art brush to paint blocks of red on either side of the striped areas. I connected the two blocks with a wide band to mimic the band across Emma’s back.

L’Hiver

Holiday Decorations Nail Art 3

To get this look: I started with a base of L’Hiver from Renaissance Custom Lacquer, and then painted the black lines with black polish. I filled in the shapes with white polish to provide a good base for the colours I would add on top. The ornaments I filled in with Renaissance Custom Lacquer Mount Pleasant, Spadina, St. Clair and Runnymede. The tiny stars were painted with Essie Good as Gold. I dabbed on a bit of Renaissance Custom Lacquer Evenstar to give it some glitz.

The gradient itself was super easy: I just started with a base of a-england Rose Bower and sponged on a-england Bridal Veil (both amazing polishes, by the way) with a makeup wedge. Holographic polishes are a great choice for gradients because they tend to blend well with each other and make for a nice transition between colors without too much fuss.

Ob 09a0b2 purple galaxy nails over zoya payton 3

I’ve prepared simple galaxy nail art and this time it’s all purple! I’ve used Zoya Payton as a base colour because it’s beautiful and the chunky holographic glitter looks like stars :)

Base colour – I’ve used Zoya Payton because of the holographic glitter in it

White, pink creme and purple creme polish, dotting tool, small detailing brush and topcoat (I’ve used Zoya polishes and Seche Vite topcoat).
