Royal Jelly

FBJ is a bright royal blue jelly base with large and medium white hex glitter, as well as what I think is white matte microglitter. I used two coats for my swatches. There was a LOT of the large hex glitter in this polish, so I didn’t have to do any fishing for the pieces. It applied nicely, and only required a little bit of fussing with the large glitter placement to be perfect.

Femme Fatale Edge of the Cosmos 2

Femme Fatale Edge Of The Cosmos is a blackened purple jelly base with a subtle holographic sparkle and holographic glitter in various sizes and shapes. The glitter that stands out the most is large circle glitter, star glitter and moon glitter. The formula was really nice, it can be worn alone or layered…I decided to layer it to try to make the glitter pop. I had no issues getting the shapes of glitter out, it might be because mine was a mini and it’s usually easier to get glitter out of them. If anyone has a full size of this one I’d love to know if it’s as easy to get the glitter out of it! I layered 2 coats of Edge of the Cosmos over I Love Nail Polish  Sweet Talker for the photos.

Rainbow Honey

 IMG 8369 copy

Hi guys! Today I have a double whammy for you – some swatches of some popular polishes from Rainbow Honey, and an overview of the latest obsession, HK Girl Glisten and Glow Super Shiny, Fast Drying Top Coat. I have heard so many amazing things about this top coat, so I decided to put it to the test by pairing it with some chunky glitter polishes from Rainbow Honey. You’ll find my opinion about the top coat at the bottom of this post! Let’s get started with the polishes:

Let’s start with this gorgeous unreleased glitter topper called Papillon. This polish is going to be part of Rainbow Honey’s spring collection, I believe. It is packed with girly pink holographic glitters and irridescent purple glitters in a bunch of different sizes, and even some holographic butterfly glitters as well! I am not usually attracted to girly polishes, but this one really caught my eye. I loved this combo with a dark pink base as well. Shown is two coats of Papillon over Julep Evelyn.

Shades of Phoenix Were All Mad Here IMG 9710

Here’s a polish I knew I had to buy the moment I saw it – Shades of Phoenix’s We’re All Mad Here, inspired by the colours of the Cheshire Cat from the Disney version of Alice in Wonderland.

I’ve always loved Lewis Carroll – Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass are such timeless books. I’ve been re-reading them since I was about 7. They never get old.

Renaissance Custom Lacquer Rosie Osie Swatch 5

Renaissance Cosmetics Rosie-Osie is a deep red jelly with intense red shimmer and tiny silver and gold glitter that looks incredible when suspended in the red base. It truly does have that lit-from-within look. Application was really smooth and even, and the consistency is just right – not too thin or thick. This was two coats. I did use a coat of Gelous followed by top coat, to give it more of a glassy look, but this is completely optional.

Wing Dust Waking Dream Swatch 2

Wing Dust Waking Dream is a dark purple jelly with pink, red and silver glitter, including hexes, circles, stars, and tiny hair glitter. It also has a very subtle shimmer, but it’s not very noticeable on the nails. I do love how dark and dreamy this one is – a classic Wing Dust! Application was good, but I recommend two coats of top coat (or Gelous) to smooth out the glitter. This was 3 coats.

For the Emperor

piCture polish Imperial is a vibrant neon people base packed with heavy blue shimmery flakes and small coppery gold hexagonal glitters. Pictures can’t do this one justice because it’s even more vibrant and beautiful in person. Definitely a must-own in my opinion.

The formula was pretty great; it was nice and creamy and two coats provided perfect coverage. It does dry down semi-matte due to the neon pigment, so be sure to add top coat if you want a shiny finish.

CrowsToes Dragon In Drag 3

CrowsToes Dragon in Drag is a glitter topper full of various sizes and shapes of blue, green and gold glitter. This is my favorite of the collection, it looks all under the sea over blue! The formula was a little thick but very glitter dense and easy to apply. I used 1 coat over Misa Winter Bluesy Blues for the photos below.

Ice pack

The KBShimmer Winter 2013 Collection includes some glitters, some multichromes and even some holographic multichromes! There’s something for everyone with this one. KBShimmer Snow Flaking Way! is an indigo jelly base with blue, purple and silver holographic glitters in various shapes and sizes, including snowflakes! We first saw snowflake glitters in Snow Much Fun from the KBShimmer Blogger Collection and although I’m usually not a fan of hearts and stars and those types of glitters, I actually really like the snowflakes. Though as I said in my review of that collection, the snowflakes do not want to lay flat on the nail. The formula was good, but I did have to fish some of the snowflakes out. My swatch shows three coats.

Opi gumdrops candy is dandy 2

This is one of the nicest textured collections I’ve seen, there’s a good mix of colours and they’re quite sparkly in real life, more so than on camera! I always find textured polishes so easy to apply too and these are no different. They dry down to a matte finish, but you can add a thick top coat to make them shine if you prefer.

Nicole by OPI Candy Is Dandy is another favourite, a sweet pink shade with silver glitter and larger iridescent hex glitters. 2 coats.

For a glitter gradient, you want to use a glitter polish with a clear base that has a reasonable glitter load. Glitter polishes that are opaque on their own or that have crelly-base could work, but if you’re starting out, I would suggest a glitter topper in a clear base.  Glitter gradients can be very versatile.  They can be super subtle – soft pink polish with a gradient in a shimmering silver – or very bold – like the manicure I’m showing you today!

My base color is Milani High Speed Fast Dry Quick Teal.  I chose Jordana Glitters Copper Blaze for my glitter polish, which I forgot has a tinted base.  It gives this manicure even more of a cool gradient look and actually worked out quite well for the tutorial portion of this post because you can see exactly where I put the polish! =)  I finished the manicure off with two coats of Glisten & Glow HK Girl top coat.
