KBShimmer Strung Out 2

KBShimmer Strung Out is a black jelly with gold, silver, green, blue and red circle glitter. This is a collaboration with the lovely Jackie of Candy Coated Tips. I adore Jackie and was so excited to see her shade, she’s one of the few bloggers I’ve met in real life! I love the Christmas Lights inspiration behind this shade and all the circle glitter, I love me some circle glitter! The formula was good, this is a bit sheer because of the jelly base but it builds up to full opacity on its own easily. This is great layered over black aswell. I used 3 coats on it’s own + top coat for the photos below.

Happy Birthday

Kissy3

Zoya Kissy has a reddish-pink tinted base with lots of bright pink/red shimmer and pink and holo tinsel/bar glitter pieces. It went on well and I didn’t have to pick at the bar glitters TOO much afterwards. It is pretty top coat hungry so I ended up using one coat of Gelous and two coats of Poshe.

Planner

Erin Condren Planner Inspired Nail Art 1

To get this look: I decided to stay true to the design of the planner and the colours used. Since the background is not black, but more of a slate grey. I started with a base of one coat of Cult Nails Fetish, and one coat of Essie Cashmere Bathrobe (I don’t own a dark slate grey, otherwise I would have used that).

The next step was to paint where my design would go, and block it out using Cult Nails Tempest (an opaque white). This would allow for the colours to show up more.

I then painted in the design with my colour: Nubar My New Obsession (blue), Sally Hansen Lightening (yellow), Nubar On The Radar (red), Models Own Soda Pop Pink, OPI My Vampire is Buff, Misa Lime Love, and for the brown/nude a mix of Models Own Nude Beige and Essie Cashmere Bathrobe.

Leaping leopards

I started off with a base of OPI My Vampire Is Buff and did the leopard print in Essie Where’s My Chauffeur? and Wet N Wild Wild Shine Red Red.  I sealed everything in with Glisten & Glow HK Girl top coat.

Smitten polish look to the western sky 0044444444444

Today we have the first Smitten Polishes to hit the blog.  This is a brand I’ve had my eye on for some time.  I’ve bought a couple, but only a couple, as every time I look, most of the polishes seem to be those milky white glitters that I just cannot get away with wearing.

Luckily however, Noelie’s new collection is bursting with colour, and I was super excited when she offered to send me 3 for review.  Now, it probably won’t surprise you that I asked for a purple, but WAIT, STOP THE CLOCKS, I also asked for 2 greens.  Uh huh.   But obviously I’m going to start with the purple …  :)

Smitten Polish Look To The Western Sky is gobsmackingly sensational.  As a purple lover, it takes something quite exceptional to knock my socks off these days.  Well, this is it!

This is an intense purple vinyl polish which is obscenely bright (I’m amazed the photos are as accurate as they are). By vinyl, I mean this dries to a matte, rubbery finish.  I know a lot of you are going to love that.  I liked it, but was in a hurry, so just went straight to glossy with a lick of Poshe.

Blue kbshimmer too cold to hold swatch

Too Cold To Hold is a rich blue textured polish that’s positively packed with holographic blue, silver, and green glitters! This polish is super sparkly and holographic, and it looks awesome in the light. Shown above is two careful coats without top coat.

Flag it

 IMG 5638 copy

… today’s prompt is “inspired by a flag.” I am from the United States, but I have been seeing the United Kingdom’s Union Jack flag everywhere lately, so I decided to incorporate it into a skittle manicure using some OPI colors.

I decided to go with a funkier color scheme, instead of primary red, white and blue colors. The base color of the flag is OPI My Vampire is Buff, and I painted over it with OPI Casino Royale (which is also on my index finger) and OPI I Saw… U Saw… We Saw… Warsaw! The textured polish on my alternating fingers is OPI Get Your Number.

 Super Black 3rd Degree 1

Hello polished friends and happy Saturday!  I have four polishes from a new-to-me indie brand to share today: Super Black Handmade Lacquers.  First off, I was super impressed by the packaging and presentation…such a great look!  Plus, the polishes are great!

First up is Super Black 3rd Degree, a shimmering golden orange-red.  This is two easy coats.  I’m seeing lots of orange-reds like this for the holidays and winter, and I’m loving it.  I think this will work on more skin tones than a traditional red-red!

Stars and Stripes

Usa hockey nails 1 watermark

When I first started kicking around the idea of doing some USA hockey nail art, I knew from the beginning that more than just doing a red, white, and blue design, I really wanted to capture the three main elements of the jerseys Team USA is wearing in Sochi this year: the crest on the front, the thick red and white armbands, and the shiny stars across the shoulders.

Reinvented Gradient

20140126 lacquer legion reinvention opi gradient 11This is actually a reinvention of last year’s Valentine’s mani that I produced for the 2013 Zoya Valentine’s Day promotion. If you can’t tell, I love striped manis. I also love pink and red together. I was toying around with the idea of layering a gradient going in two directions. For the base, I used the sponge technique to apply OPI Red and OPI If You Moust You Moust, placing the red at the cuticle. I gotta tell you, the hardest part about this mani was the clean-up. I had lobster fingers and cuticles that no amount of acetone would remedy. I ended up using topcoat, then waiting until this step was completely dry so I could give my hands a good scrub.

Wing Dust Waking Dream Swatch 2

Wing Dust Waking Dream is a dark purple jelly with pink, red and silver glitter, including hexes, circles, stars, and tiny hair glitter. It also has a very subtle shimmer, but it’s not very noticeable on the nails. I do love how dark and dreamy this one is – a classic Wing Dust! Application was good, but I recommend two coats of top coat (or Gelous) to smooth out the glitter. This was 3 coats.
