Grab a toothpick

Radiosuperstar3

This is a really nice polish with blue micro glitter and big fuchsia with sporadic holo stars.  As cute as polishes are with the big glitter like the stars are, they are also a huge pain in the butt.  I had to put the stars in place with a toothpick because it just wasn’t happening when I brushed it on.   Oh well, you gotta do what you gotta do sometimes :).

KBShimmer Sand In My Stocking 1

My shade is called Sand In My Stocking and it was inspired by the beach. Specifically it was inspired by a snowman made of sand, because it doesn’t snow here :( I was going for the look of taking the sandy snowman and putting all his colors in glitter form then stuffing it into a bottle…there are also some pops of blue glitter in here to represent the ocean! Sand In My Stocking is not a typical holiday shade and it can really translate into any season depending on what you layer it with. It’s packed with small white, gold, tan, grey and brown glitter, larger gold hex and circle glitter, orange hex glitter, aqua blue circle glitter and gold holographic star glitter. Formula wise this is very glitter packed so it can be a little thick however it’s easy to apply…no dabbing required.

Fresh spring

I don’t think I could pull off this look, but it is so sweet I couldn’t resist.

This style of nail art is called a “pond manicure!” It doesn’t so much reference an actual pond so much as it references the depth and the layers of the design. I followed a tutorial from Jacki at Adventures In Acetone, and she credits Olive View Fashion as the originator of this technique. It’s genius and gorgeous and best of all, EASY!

The artwork  was done using white acrylic paint, China Glaze Sunshine Pop, Kleancolor Neon Orange, NYX Between Mauve and Purple, Kleancolor Neon Purple, Sinful Colors Innocent, Sinful Colors Why Not, Spoiled Permission to Proceed, and NYC Greenwich Village. The background was a gradient done using Kleancolor Metallic Aqua, Metallic Sapphire, and Metallic Fuchsia.

Femme Fatale Edge of the Cosmos 2

Femme Fatale Edge Of The Cosmos is a blackened purple jelly base with a subtle holographic sparkle and holographic glitter in various sizes and shapes. The glitter that stands out the most is large circle glitter, star glitter and moon glitter. The formula was really nice, it can be worn alone or layered…I decided to layer it to try to make the glitter pop. I had no issues getting the shapes of glitter out, it might be because mine was a mini and it’s usually easier to get glitter out of them. If anyone has a full size of this one I’d love to know if it’s as easy to get the glitter out of it! I layered 2 coats of Edge of the Cosmos over I Love Nail Polish  Sweet Talker for the photos.

Stars and Stripes

Usa hockey nails 1 watermark

When I first started kicking around the idea of doing some USA hockey nail art, I knew from the beginning that more than just doing a red, white, and blue design, I really wanted to capture the three main elements of the jerseys Team USA is wearing in Sochi this year: the crest on the front, the thick red and white armbands, and the shiny stars across the shoulders.

Wing Dust Waking Dream Swatch 2

Wing Dust Waking Dream is a dark purple jelly with pink, red and silver glitter, including hexes, circles, stars, and tiny hair glitter. It also has a very subtle shimmer, but it’s not very noticeable on the nails. I do love how dark and dreamy this one is – a classic Wing Dust! Application was good, but I recommend two coats of top coat (or Gelous) to smooth out the glitter. This was 3 coats.

L’Hiver

Holiday Decorations Nail Art 3

To get this look: I started with a base of L’Hiver from Renaissance Custom Lacquer, and then painted the black lines with black polish. I filled in the shapes with white polish to provide a good base for the colours I would add on top. The ornaments I filled in with Renaissance Custom Lacquer Mount Pleasant, Spadina, St. Clair and Runnymede. The tiny stars were painted with Essie Good as Gold. I dabbed on a bit of Renaissance Custom Lacquer Evenstar to give it some glitz.

Snowflakingway1wm

The KBShimmer Winter 2013 Collection includes some glitters, some multichromes and even some holographic multichromes! There’s something for everyone with this one. KBShimmer Snow Flaking Way! is an indigo jelly base with blue, purple and silver holographic glitters in various shapes and sizes, including snowflakes! We first saw snowflake glitters in Snow Much Fun from the KBShimmer Blogger Collection and although I’m usually not a fan of hearts and stars and those types of glitters, I actually really like the snowflakes. Though as I said in my review of that collection, the snowflakes do not want to lay flat on the nail. The formula was good, but I did have to fish some of the snowflakes out. My swatch shows three coats.

Ob 09a0b2 purple galaxy nails over zoya payton 3

I’ve prepared simple galaxy nail art and this time it’s all purple! I’ve used Zoya Payton as a base colour because it’s beautiful and the chunky holographic glitter looks like stars :)

Base colour – I’ve used Zoya Payton because of the holographic glitter in it

White, pink creme and purple creme polish, dotting tool, small detailing brush and topcoat (I’ve used Zoya polishes and Seche Vite topcoat).

Day of the Doctor

Day of the doctor nail art 01

For the base colour I chose a polish that fits the theme perfectly… Cult Nails Time Traveler – a polish named after the Doctor’s big blue box

On my ring and pinky fingers, I stuck some 1 mm flat backed pearls and painted them copper to look a bit like Daleks!

My index finger is painted with Essie As Gold as it Gets and stamped with W7 Black and a design from MoYou London Plate Pro Collection 10. This is meant to look a bit like The Master’s fob since this is a piece of imagery that really stood out to me back in the days when I used to watch the show. Wasn’t The Master a brilliant character?!

The galaxy nails were created using a couple of polishes including the holographic polishes A-England Rose Bower and Princess Sabra.
