For a glitter gradient, you want to use a glitter polish with a clear base that has a reasonable glitter load. Glitter polishes that are opaque on their own or that have crelly-base could work, but if you’re starting out, I would suggest a glitter topper in a clear base.  Glitter gradients can be very versatile.  They can be super subtle – soft pink polish with a gradient in a shimmering silver – or very bold – like the manicure I’m showing you today!

My base color is Milani High Speed Fast Dry Quick Teal.  I chose Jordana Glitters Copper Blaze for my glitter polish, which I forgot has a tinted base.  It gives this manicure even more of a cool gradient look and actually worked out quite well for the tutorial portion of this post because you can see exactly where I put the polish! =)  I finished the manicure off with two coats of Glisten & Glow HK Girl top coat.

The Queen

Today’s manicure incorporates three beautiful Darling Diva polishes from the Queen inspired collection (reviewed here). All three are duochromes with holographic particles in them so it’s given that they look stunning. I have used a striping tape to help me get straight lines and Seche Vite topcoat to seal the design. The shades used are: Crazy Little Thing Called Love, Bohemian Rhapsody and Killer Queen.

SAUL!

I’m excited I can finally show you Cadillacquer Breaking Bad Collection! I love Breaking Bad and unpacking these polishes and finding out their names felt like Christmas! Even my boyfriend stayed throughout the whole process just to find out all the nail polish names :D Anyway…

Better Call Saul! bright blue shimmer with holographic particles. It applied easily and is a bit streaky but nothing major. I’ve applied two coats and topcoat.

Bluefinal

You Are NOT My Nemesis has a clear base with blue shimmer, silver and teal hexes and large teal diamond shaped glitters. This is two coats over Essie Licorice. Check out that shimmer. Very pretty! It makes the black base look navy blue! I love that effect.

Blue dream

Maybe it’s the deep cyan blue of the base colour (which somehow manages to be richer, greener and sparklier than my pictures suggest..we’ve had non-stop rain with more forecast all next week, so I had to make do with flash). Maybe it’s the gold flecks which accessorise with all my jewellery. Maybe it’s the tiny glitter particles, which makes it opaque in two coats and so sparkly in the light that it looks as though there are far more colours than just two.

Blue sky

First up is the creme shade that accompanied the famous Mermaid’s Dream in the Resort 2012 collection, Deborah Lippmann On The Beach.  This is a gorgeous, bright turqouise blue with a slight jelly finish!  On Deborah Lippmann’s website, I believe it is listed as a “creme” but I would definitely call it a jelly.  This is three coats with a top coat of NYC.  Perfection.

Shiny is part of the Firefly trio and is “a clear sky blue with sapphire shift, silver and white microglitter, ultrafine opalescent blue glitter, multiple sizes of silver hex glitter, plus medium square white and silver glitter. It’s spacey, it’s cool, it’s synonymous with “fine,” and it’s very shiny indeed”

Now I knew this color was beautiful, but jeez!  IRL it’s incredible.  The metallic foil finish is just amazing.  My brain is gonna explode from all the awesomeness.  I only needed 1 coat, but I did 2 for photo’s sake.  It dried extremely fast and had the smoothest application in the world.

Dior St. Tropez is a light greenish, aqua blue creme and was opaque in two easy, creamy coats. Typical Dior formula perfection.

Pretty & Polished Hybrid is a pale blue shimmer thermal that shifts to medium blue and then to purple when cold.  The formula was smooth and very easy to apply.  I absolutely love the triple shift in this one!   Shown is two coats of Hybrid.
